70% - light smoke, reduces UV rays and assists airconditioning.
40% - subtle but noticeable tint, lightly shading the glass and cutting down glare.
20% - The equivalent to privacy glass on a Range Rover, Mercedes-Benz, or BMW. Cuts out a large percentage (80%) of the light giving privacy without compromising visibility. This film is also very good at cutting out heat and glare, whether for passengers, children or animals.
5% - Widely known as limousine tint. This film will make the glass Pitch black from the outside ,allowing just enough light to still see out. Brilliant for privacy on a commercial vehicle or van back windows.
2.5% - Near total blockout for ultimate privacy.

TINT LEGALITY

The amendment to Section 32 of the Road Vehicles (Construction & Use) Regulations, vis--vis Visible Light Transmission, was enacted during the early part of 2004 and back-dated to become applicable from 1st January 2004

 

Although the amendment is from 2004 it specifically applies to all vehicles:

 

Motor Vehicles first used before 1 April 1985:
The windscreen and front side windows must allow at least 70% of light to be transmitted through them. Motor

 

Vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1985:

The light transmitted through the windscreen must be at least 75%. The front side windows must allow at least 70% of light to be transmitted through them.
